The Society was established in 1968 by local residents concerned that much of the town's history, in the form of documents, photographs and artefacts, was being lost as time passed.
Apart from the elected Committee that has oversight and responsibility for day to day operations of the Society, there are four working groups that focus on specific functions of the Society.
|Historians - This group looks after the Archives on public Open Days and respond to enquiries, including Research Requests. The group also undertakes projects that develop the extent of the collection.
|Cataloguing - This group publishes information about the collection to the Victorian Collections website and promotes the search capability of the collection to information by developing catalogues and indexes.
|Communications - This group supports the Society's social media channels such as Facebook, develops content for the website and do the writing for a periodic newsletter.
|Technology - This group supports the Society's use of computers, software, and general equipment.
Members can join any of our four working groups, according to their interests.
